چکیده

We consider testing for an exponential distribution with unspecified rate parameter when it is only possible to observe the counts in groups with boundaries specified before sighting the data. On the basis of a size and power study we recommend that tests of fit for the exponential distribution be based on the Anderson-Darling statistic and the SW2 statistic recommended by Gulati and Neus (2001). We also suggest that inference based on one of these be complemented by examination of the components of the X statistic. We illustrate how to use these components to give improved models.

Selecting an appropriate particle size distribution (PSD) model for a particular soil may be important for a precise estimation of soil hydraulic properties. Various models have been proposed for describing soil PSDs. The objective of this study was to compare the quality of fitting of eight PSD models (Fredlund, Gompertz, van Genuchten, Jaki, Logarithmic, Exponential, Logarithmic-Exponential a...

Probability Distribution of Rainfall Depth at Hourly Time-Scale

Rainfall data at fine resolution and knowledge of its characteristics plays a major role in the efficient design and operation of agricultural, telecommunication, runoff and erosion control as well as water quality control systems. The paper is aimed to study the statistical distribution of hourly rainfall depth for 12 representative stations spread across Peninsular Malaysia. Hourly rainfall d...

Components of the Pearson-Fisher Chi-squared Statistic

The Pearson-Fisher chi-squared test can be used to evaluate the goodnessof-fit of categorized continuous data with known bin endpoints compared to a continuous distribution, in the presence of unknown (nuisance) distribution parameters. Rayner and McAlevey [11] and Rayner and Best [9],[10] demonstrate that in this case, component tests of the Pearson-Fisher chi-squared test statistic can be obt...

Goodness of Fit Tests in Stochastic Frontier Models

In this paper we discuss goodness of fit tests for the distribution of technical inefficiency in stochastic frontier models. If we maintain the hypothesis that the assumed normal distribution for statistical noise is correct, the assumed distribution for technical inefficiency is testable. We show that a goodness of fit test can be based on the distribution of estimated technical efficiency, or...

Minimax Estimation of the Scale Parameter in a Family of Transformed Chi-Square Distributions under Asymmetric Squared Log Error and MLINEX Loss Functions

This paper is concerned with the problem of finding the minimax estimators of the scale parameter ? in a family of transformed chi-square distributions, under asymmetric squared log error (SLE) and modified linear exponential (MLINEX) loss functions, using the Lehmann Theorem [2]. Also we show that the results of Podder et al. [4] for Pareto distribution are a special case of our results for th...
